Amazon adds collection points to Barclays branches
A trial of Amazon collection points housed within bank branches operated on UK high streets by Barclays could, ultimately, see 1500 more outlets getting this technology in the next few months, according to the Mail on Sunday.
Amazon’s existing network of collection points includes units located in train stations, as well as giving customers the option to pick up packages ordered via safe shopping online from their local news agent.
Now that banks like Barclays are having to cope with falling visitor numbers to bricks and mortar locations, as a result of the popularity of online services, this tie-in with the world’s biggest e-commerce company seems like a sensible solution to stem the exodus.
The small scale rollout of collection points in banks across London will prove whether or not such a scheme is beneficial for Barclays and Amazon alike. And while the bank has yet to pass comment on whether or not a wider implementation of this initiative is on the cards, customers in the capital can already experience the advantages of this alternative to home delivery.
Collection points combine the benefits of safe shopping online with the convenience of local collection, meaning that customers do not need to wait around at home for a delivery to arrive but can, instead, go about their day and then access their items when they have the time to pick them up.
Since Amazon’s collection points can be entirely unmanned, with shoppers getting a unique code that lets them access a locker containing their order, they can be available outside of normal store opening hours. But for the points located in banks, this may not be a possibility, which could cause issues for customers who are unable to pick up an order during the working day.
