Amazon confirms new warehouse opening
Amazon is about to open another warehouse in Doncaster as it attempts to improve its delivery infrastructure in the UK and ensure that it can fulfil all of the orders which are placed via safe shopping online by its army of loyal customers.
Retail Gazette reports that the new warehouse will employ 500 people in the short term, with 3,500 additional workers set to be recruited over the next year, as the facility gets up to full operational capacity.
In addition to this new warehouse, Amazon has fulfilment centres scheduled to open their doors before the end of the year in both Manchester and Leicester, showing that the retailer is confident in securing ongoing growth in the UK.
Company spokesperson, John Tagawa, said that Doncaster had been chosen for the third time to play host to one of the firm’s warehouses because of its advantageous location and the wealth of talented individuals ready to fill roles within Amazon living in the area.
He also said that the facility would not just employ staff to work on the floor, picking products and managing the movement of items, but also people to take on a number of roles in everything from HR to engineering and IT.
Amazon’s ambitions to enter the UK’s grocery delivery market and win over customers who currently carry out safe shopping online with the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury’s will see it continue to invest in its distribution infrastructure over the coming years. And this will lead to economic benefits to the areas which are chosen to host warehouses like this.
This shows that the consumer appetite for e-commerce that is so strong throughout the UK is having a positive impact in a number of ways, even if the high street is suffering.
