Amazon dishes out free Prime subscriptions to lucky UK residents
Last week marked a full decade since the introduction of Amazon Prime, the subscription service offered by the US e-commerce giant, which now covers everything from free delivery of items ordered via safe shopping online to access to video streaming and gaming platforms. Now in recognition of this milestone, 10 villages across Britain and Northern Ireland have been selected to receive a year’s worth of Prime access free of charge.
The Mirror reports that this giveaway was based on the communities which were most prominently in support of Prime, with residents using Amazon’s service to shop online, watch the latest movies and TV shows and access a range of other perks.
The 12 month free membership is being gifted to those who are already subscribers, as well as to other people living in each of the 10 villages which have yet to sign up, but could well become Amazon fans from this point onwards.
From Calvert Green in Buckinghamshire and Llanwern in Newport to Garvald in East Lothian and Rubane in County Down, hundreds of free Prime memberships were handed out. But there are also other gifts being showered down upon the UK by Amazon as Prime turns 10.
Especially lucky members of the communities involved in the giveaway are set to be whisked away for a free trip to London, accompanied by tickets to an event of their choice at the O2 arena. This is linked to the fact that Amazon has its own ticketing service, which is also available to Prime members.
Prime has certainly helped to generate a lot of loyalty amongst its UK customers and although this celebration giveaway is miniscule in comparison with Amazon’s multi billion pound global operations, it is still going to impress consumers.
