Argos achieves success with search engine visibility
When it comes to winning over consumers looking to shop online, getting a high ranking on Google is a significant achievement.
Now a study from Pi Datametrics has assessed various British retailers based on their ability to rank well in organic search results, identifying Argos as being the most prominent presence in this competitive marketplace.
To be specific, Argos has managed to top other major outlets, including Amazon and Currys, when it comes to searches for consumer electronics and household items.
The rest of the top five was made up by Carphone Warehouse and Apple, ensuring that retailers and brands were a dominant force.
Interestingly enough the study also showed that it is not just commercial outlets that hold sway over the search market for electrical goods; also present were the likes of review site Tech Radar and research hub Wikipedia.
The success of Argos is a reflection not only of the firm’s ability to capture organic search results effectively and convince Google’s algorithms that it is worth ranking above its rivals; it also shows that consumers are more willing to click through to its pages and make purchases.
Many may be surprised that it edged out Amazon in terms of its search impact, although it is worth remembering that this study is focused on specific product categories and does not take into account the broader swathe of potential search terms that might be used.
Rivals will no doubt be eager to follow in the footsteps of Argos and climb to the pinnacle of Google’s results pages, although this can take some time to perfect and requires a lot of investment. The brand recognition that Argos has earned on the high street over a period of decades is no doubt partly responsible.
