Millennials embrace innovative online delivery services
Although the e-commerce industry has been around long enough to be embraced by people of all ages in the UK, it seems that those who grew up with it as a standard feature of their lives are more willing to experiment with new delivery solutions, according to a survey conducted by MetaPack.
Ninety three per cent of Millennials questioned, who had placed orders online and had items delivered to storage lockers rather than direct to their homes, said that they would suggest that other people do the same.
Two thirds of those aged under 35 said that they have taken advantage of click and collect delivery services, while 41 per cent said that they have had items delivered to their local corner shop by a major retailer like Amazon. This allowed them to collect it at a convenient time, rather than having to wait around at home for a delivery to arrive.
Thirty five per cent said that they would like to be able to pick up online orders from the train station or other travel interchanges closest to where they live, while 33 per cent were even keen on the idea of having deliveries dropped off in the boot of their car, while they are at work or at home.
Some of these systems of delivery are already available, while others are in the process of being trialled by major retailers. But the point here is that younger consumers are very likely to take advantage of the different options, once they have been launched.
Eighty per cent of respondents said that they would prefer to have an order placed via safe shopping online delivered on the same day, while 84 per cent said that if a retailer does manage to mess up a delivery, they will choose to voice their concerns publicly, whether directly to friends or via social media.
