Primark Criticises Illegitimate Offering of Products on Amazon
Discount clothing chain Primark is famed for shying away from the world of safe shopping online in an official capacity, but this has not been enough to stop third parties from offering its products in an e-commerce context.
Indeed, it seems that the Amazon marketplace has started to play host to a number of items sourced from Primark, forcing the firm to urge its customers to avoid ordering from sellers in this context.
The problem is that at the moment there is no direct connection between Amazon and Primark, meaning that any products advertised as being from the latter which are available from the former will be supplied by smaller sellers at much higher price points than are available in-store.
This issue was partly brought to light by the fact that a number of consumers had used their social media accounts to point out that they were pleased to see Primark making its products available online, presumably without realising that this was not an official offering.
A number of the products are two or three times as expensive on Amazon’s marketplace platform compared with their in-store equivalents, according to the Sun.
It is interesting to see that there is clearly enthusiasm for any potential online offering from Primark, even if there is yet to be an official avenue. Unfortunately for fans, the company has reasserted its commitment to keeping its brand solely on the high street for the foreseeable future, which makes it one of just a handful of retailers to find more success outside of the e-commerce sphere than within it.
Amazon will no doubt have to take care to ensure that such unofficial listings of Primark products are clearly labelled as such or else completely remove them from its marketplace to avoid confusion.
