Smart leggings provide accurate measurements for online ordering
A new piece of wearable technology is on the way, joining the influx of smart watches and other gadgets, but with a focus on enhancing the experience of carrying out safe shopping online.
The smart leggings, developed by LikeAGlove, are not just an average pair of comfortable trousers; they are built with sensors that allow them to take accurate measurements of the wearer and thus match them up with fashion items online which, in theory, should be the perfect fit, according to TechRadar.
This will take the guesswork out of safe shopping online, meaning that customers will no longer need to order more than one pair of trousers from their favourite retailer, just in case they are not satisfied with the way they fit.
As you would expect, the smart leggings take advantage of wireless connectivity to pass the measurements they take onto a smartphone or tablet application. The process then allows this information to be combined with e-commerce services so that orders can be placed.
Company spokesperson, Simon Cooper, said that the creation of the smart leggings would mean that almost anyone can effectively receive the same service they would get from a human tailor, all from the comfort of their home.
The smart leggings from LikeAGlove are going on sale in the US this year, with an initial price point equivalent to £35. After the launch promotion ends they will cost closer to £65, which is still a relatively small amount to ask for an item that fashion fans will use again and again.
Whether this type of tech will catch on in the UK is another matter, because two thirds of people under 35 already buy fashion online and if yet another purchase is required to facilitate this, the enthusiasm may be limited.
