Smart mirror tech unveiled
Consumers who love to buy fashion items via safe shopping online but often find that the items they order do not look as good as they hoped after arriving on their doorsteps could soon find that this problem has been solved.
This is all thanks to tech referred to as an Avant-Garde Fitting System which has been unveiled by emerging firm, The Modern Mirror, according to Internet Retailing.
The system is designed to work just as well in the e-commerce space as it does in the high street, using 3D capturing techniques to create a realistic model of an individual which can then be adorned with a wide array of garments, providing an accurate view of what they will look like in a virtual space.
The underpinnings of this tech come from earlier military experimentations which were intended to make equipment fit wearers more ergonomically and with improved comfort, so it is based on tried and tested methods that should prove to be effective in the retail marketplace.
A demonstration of the technology will be taking place today at an event in London, with The Modern Mirror hoping to attract the attention of major retailers in the world of luxury fashion. This means that it will probably appear on sites which offer high end clothing via safe shopping online before eventually arriving on mainstream outlets further down the line.
Company spokesperson, Nicole Reader, said that aside from improving the experience of buying clothing online, the aim of this tech was to help retailers retain customers, rather than losing them to rivals. Loyalty is difficult to generate in the flexible age of online shopping, but fashion retailers will be more likely to make sales if customers can try on clothes virtually without having to actually access them in person first.
